One of the great things about the new HDTVs is that they can be easily mounted to a wall, which frees the top of your furniture from a big heavy television and provides theater-like viewing angles, all in the comfort of your own home.
When purchasing a wall mount there are several basic considerations. The first is the weight of your display versus the weight limit of the mount. You should look for a mount with a weight capacity that exceeds the weight of your TV by at least 50 Percent. The reason for this is that the rated weight capacity of a mount is the absolute maximum weight it can withstand without incurring a structural failure of some kind. Also, the weight of the mount itself is included in the maximum capacity.
The second thing to look for is a mount that can accommodate the mounting holes on the back of your TV. The actual size of the display itself (e.g., 42") is of almost no concern. The owner's manual of your TV should show the VESA size required, which is measured in millimeters.
The third thing to look for is the type of mount. In general, there are three basic types: fixed, tilting, and fully articulating with tilt, swivel, and extension. Which you should choose depends entirely on your needs and your budget.

Works really well for 86" LG
Really sturdy design compared to other options. Easy to move TV to avoid glare as it shifts throughout the day. Wish the back plate were big enough to bolt into 3 studs and 4 bolts into each. Cable management clips are a joke; used zip-ties instead If pulling wires through the wall, may need to go above mount - there wasn't enough room for a strike plate in middle of mount.

Great heavy duty mount
I ready all the reviews, but was still surprised how heavy duty this mount is. This mount isn't even working hard to hold my 65-inch TV at full 30-inch extension from the wall. I will say that if you really don't need the 30-inch extension like I did for my application, you can probably find a cheaper mount at Monoprice that is perfectly adequate. But this mount is simply the best if you have a 85-inch TV or need the full extension. As others have said, the instructions are bad so you really need to study how this thing goes together to make it work. We had 3 people working on this and it really made life easier than with 2 people: 1) the mount is very heavy to hold on the wall to get the first couple lag screws in it, and especially 2) lifting the TV and aligning it with the notches (I can't imagine doing this step with a 75-inch TV and only 2 people). The only negative with the mount is the vertical bars are too long and would stick out the top, so I had to cut off about 4 inches. Although it looks like there are a lot of holes and slots, with our VESA 400x400, there are only 2 positions that can work, so you don't have as much flexibility as you might think.

Very strong and flexible, needed to drill holes to match my TV
This is a very sturdy mount. It is the only one I could find that extends out from the wall far enough to use in an alcove where an old fashioned TV would fit. I give it 3 stars because I had to drill holes in the TV bracket in order to mount my 400 x 400 TV. It also came with a lot of bolts, but not the 45mm M8 1.25 bolts that my Samsung 75" needs.
