Worse quality than you remember

You're probably delighted to find what looks like a Christmas treat you had when you were a kid. That one was brass, but for mine I chose the new nickel-plated steel. The heat of candles through the wind vane on top made it whirl so fast that each hanging angel swung out a clapper that chimed the bells as a pleasant background sound. 1 star off for making the pieces serious badly. -1 star for frustrating the memory of a fun, well-designed, simple-to-use product. Another star taken away for crowd-sourcing the instructions for assembly and trouble-shooting. How hard is it to post a PDF? Here's what I tried to make it work. Holes in the angels were too small to hang any of the clappers —Used a 2.3 mm drill bit to slightly enlarge each. The clappers weren't able to solidly tap the the bell-shaped chimes. —Each paddle on the wind vane is bent up on one edge. [Caution: that thin metal gets very hot quickly.] Lit the candles under the wind vane to see which way it turned… …I hung each angel so it faced forward in that direction. You want to insert the clapper so it hangs from the outer side of the angel. This helps the clapper swing out to strike the bell. The tower in the center wobbled, which among other things makes it lose speed and also distances some clappers from the chimes. —Bent the tabs at the tower's base a little, tried it, then bent the tabs a tiny bit in the correct direction. Perfect. Seems like the long thin bar inserted at the top of the tower should be pointed to minimize friction. It isn't. —I can't file something so small to a point, but I did put a drop of machine oil, eg, 3-in-1, into the cap that sits atop the point to spin. It chimed pleasantly for about half an hour then suddenly stopped. Next day, even new candles couldn't get it spinning. —Tried more heat by replacing a candle on either side with a big flame [see picture] worked great, but I'm not putting that mess out for display. Especially not after I bought a box of 20 silver candles to use. —Guess I can use them for birthdays.
