Oh So Delicious

Oh what a great treat I have just eaten. In fact, I ate three of these delicious and yummy Mallomars cookies. If you need a chocolate fix, this is one I would select. Besides eating three, I also had a cup of hot chocolate. I guess you can call it the perfect combination of various flavors. The Mallomars cookie starts with a circle of a graham cracker with a puff of marshmallow which is then covered with my favorite chocolate – pure dark chocolate which becomes a hard shell. I do not know if you know this interesting fact but Mallomars were introduced to us in 1913. The first box of Mallomars was sold in West Hoboken, New Jersey, which is now know as Union City, New Jersey. Here is another interesting fact and one you probably did not know. Mallomars are generally available from early October through April. Now I know what you are thinking – Why. OK here goes - Because of the possibility they could melt due to hot temperatures during the summer. Therefore, I do not know about you but melted Mallomars would not pass through my lips. The devoted eaters of this cookie have been known to stock up during winter months and keep them refrigerated over the summer. Yes, I am into interesting facts about this great tasting cookie. Eighty-seven percent of all Mallomars are sold in the Big Apple area. See what you have learned by reading this review on Mallomars cookies. So stop reading and go to your closest grocery store and try some. If you like them like I do, stock up before April so you can continue enjoying them year-round.

Yummy Mallomars!

These Mallomars are very good! It was my first time trying them and was surprised by how light it tasted! Each cookie has a combination of marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers. Initially, I was hesitant about the taste since I am generally not a huge fan of marshmallows (unless it is a s’more), but I couldn’t stop after the first one. I must say that it has an interesting texture (like you are chewing on a cloud) and it sort of melts in your mouth. Also, since it feels so light, I didn’t feel bad about eating a couple more :) I didn’t personally try it, but I think it will go well with milk too. I would recommend trying these cookies.

A truly GREAT cookie - need a stash for yourself

Nabisco's Mallomars come in a box of 18. Each one is about the diameter of a medium-size man's watch, with a beret-shaped marshmallow sitting atop a vanilla cookie. The whole thing is covered in dark chocolate. According to the little blurb on the back of the box, they've been around since 1913 and "more than 70% of all Mallomars sales are generated" in the New York City area. Being mostly marshmallow, each Mallomar is pretty light, but biting into it yields a rich dark chocolate flavor complemented by airy marshmallow and slightly crispy graham cracker. It's a little bit like eating a s'more made with a soft graham cracker but with a really deep chocolate flavor. The graham cracker is softer than is typical and it’s pretty crumbly. What's sets these cookies apart from others with a "chocolaty" or "fudge" coating is that Mallomars are actually covered in a rich dark chocolate. Other cookie makers use the words "chocolaty" and "fudge" to mean made with cocoa but not actual chocolate. From experience (being born and raised on Long Island) I can tell you they're not shipped during the summer because the chocolate melts. Unlike M&M’s, they will melt in your hand and because of this I’ve been known to stock up during the early spring in preparation for the summer drought. When you open the box and cellophane wrapper, the first thing you want to do is look for ones with cracked chocolate. Eat these first. Most people won’t have them around long enough but the cracked ones will get stale (hard marshmallow and stale, really crumbly graham cracker) if they sit around for a while. No doubt some people like Mallomars at room temperature, but many like theirs chilled or frozen. Someone has said, "You have to have one box in the freezer and two backups, on the top shelf." I’m not sure I agree. I think one in the pantry, one in the freezer and two hidden from the kids is about right. In short, Mallomars are super good! Unless you hate marshmallows or dark chocolate, I recommend giving them a try.
