The special tool has been designed to easily slide under the old coupler and by twisting the coupler a little it will lock into position. Now turn the coupler clockwise (the opposite way to which you would normally undo a screw or jar lid). Normally the coupler will undo with only a small amount of force, however couplers that have been in place a long time or may have had some excessive load may have been tightened onto the spindle. Please use adjustable pliers or similar tool to grip the coupler if it is wound on too tight. In really difficult cases it is necessary to use a large screwdriver to pry the old coupler off.
