These actually emit a soothing amber glow. Some brands sell “amber” bulbs, but it's really just a bulb tint or filament color, so the light emitted is really an off-white and too bright. These are a nice hue without too much yellow. The ambience created is soothing. They don't get very hot, so you won't burn your hands or have to wait to for them to cool. I even use these in uncovered sockets (think nightlight without a cover) because they're that gentle on the eyes. The shape is nice, so they don't have bare-bulb institutional vibes. They can serve as good security lights at night for dim lighting. I also use two in the porch light because the emitted light is adequate, is not garish, is classier, and makes the house lighting have a unique, uniform glow. The lifespan isn't the longest, but I do use these a lot, and winter darkness ate up some longevity too. They work fine with timers and dimmers (I don't think they're officially dimmable, but they totally work). I've noticed it's best to switch the lamp off at its switch rather than just unplugging the lamp if the lamp is switched to on and these bulbs are in place; for some reason, these occasionally burn out when the power is abruptly cut by unplugging. These are highly shatter-resistant, so yay safety! I loved my first six so much, I've just ordered a pack of 25. They're packed smartly but not excessively, and that's a win too.
