I bought this refurb from Walmart. The Gateway 14.1", N4020 celeron CPU, 4 gigs RAM, 64 gig SSD. Arrived in less than a week, perhaps from Arkansas? Extremely well-packaged. The laptop was in almost pristine condition. Looked almost new. Startup was quick and easy. Windows S Home. Works reasonably well so far. A couple of times; it shut itself down and rebooted for no obvious reason--claims something has happened, and we need to reboot your system? Explanations on the internet, overheating or outdated drivers! Hard to believe considering the trimdown nature of Window S? Not a persistent problem yet. Will update this in a few weeks with another review! On to the machine. A tiny bit of light bleed from the upper lefthand corner-probably due to pressure from the screen mounting-not that bad, acceptable for a refurb. Screen? Pretty darn clean and good compared to a cheap TN panel. Not the best color but better than TN panels. Good viewing angles. Bright enough for use indoors. Fast enough considering the N standard internet 2.4G only, not AC. And the lower end celeron CPU. Keys. Functional, a little cheap feeling and loud-a little larger than standard size. Trackpad-OK, not the greatest but adequate. One should notice that for right and left click there is a null zone in the middle where you cannot click-comparable to having a left and right key for clicking. Trackpad also a tad noisier than others. These are areas that Gateway saved some money on. But that's OK because the screen is way better than most laptops in this price range. THX? Firstly, not sure how this works! No instructions anywhere. The RealTek audio control panel cannot be downloaded-I suspect that is because they want you to PAY for what is supposed to be a free add-on here? THX app merely takes you to their site? Do they ALSO want you to PAY for what is branded on the laptop as being a feature of it? Bad consumer relations here! Internal speakers are NOT very loud, mediocre. HPhones are better, but if there is any THX tuning it will only be noticed in some extra sense of spatialization in movies. Otherwise, don't really here any difference through headphones. Good enough. Nothing special. Laptop shuts down and starts up fairly quickly. Overall. So far a very good value for $109. If it survives the 90 day warranty. More to come! Battery must be set to Best Battery Performance in order to get 7 or more hour of use. Otherwise about four or so. So, I always use the lower settings.
