Great beginner project
This kit has everything you need to learn proper embroidery, including needles, hoop, and a small pair of scissors with a cover for the blade, that makes it so easy and portable. I love the way I can grab them and snip the string with no fuss or trouble. The embroidery floss doesn't have a brand listed, but it seems to be perfectly quality. I have not tested the printed pattern on the fabric to see if it rinses/washes clean, as I am not finished with the project yet. The instructions don't seem to have been originally in English, as there are plenty of spelling and grammatical errors, but it is still perfectly understandable. The instructions include details for how to make each stitch, but a couple of them have a diagram that is hard to follow. I just simply looked up a YouTube video for that particular stitch, and it made sense then. The instructions also specify whether you should use six strands of floss, four, or as little as two. The pattern is clear and easy to see. In some areas, these specified stitch wouldn't fit, so I improvised. And it still looked perfectly great. This is been a lot of fun to work on. And I love that it came in a pretty envelope. It felt like I had received a gift. The instructions also include how to bind the backing so that the entire project, including the hoop, can be hung up somewhere. I think I will probably make a pillow or something out of mine. There is also more than enough floss for this project. A couple of times, like the amateur that I am, I tangled the floss badly enough That I had to cut it and start again. It wasn't a concern, however, because there was plenty of floss left over. I have learned so much from this project, and I have enjoyed it thoroughly.
Really cool
I absolutely love how adorable this is, and how it can help pass the time but with learning a new craft, the design is beautiful and it comes with everything you need to make it, I wish the directions were a little more clear on how to use the needle with the threads, but overall it's an amazing and fun project.
Good supplies, lacks instructions for beginner
I do love this little kit,and the pretty 3d flower designs and layout idea. I've always loved embroidery and wanted to try it, so I thought this kit would be a great place to start. It comes with plenty of embroidery floss to complete the project as pictured with the exact colors and a clear illustration of which color is used where and what type of stitch is used. I love the colors, the plastic hoop is secure, the fabric is strong, it comes with 3 needles (I've already bent one, but the 2nd I've usd is stronger), thread cutters with a blade cover, and a strong needle threader which is quite important. The instructions for embroidery are on the same illustration page, but they are somewhat smaller and a few are confusing. They give extra instruction on multiple stitiches including the few you need for the project (french knot, 3D flower, leaf stitch, and rose wreath. I did have to look up a video on YouTube for more clear directions on certain stitches which is usually easy to find. There is no instruction on how many french knots to use or 3D flower stitches, but once you watch some embroidery videos on YouTube you can figure out how other people complete their projects and also by eyeballing the results. I think through some trial and error and practice I've gotton ok at a few stitches, but I am only beginning. This kit is probably good for intermediate levels or possibly a beginner the has some previous sewing skill. I would probably purchase another for myself, but I wouldn't gift this to someone who has never done embroidery because it lacks clearer instructions. Also I definitely would recommend some needle pullers to protect your thumb and index finger with this kit....a thimble won't cut it. Overall I am having fun with my little project and look forward to working on it a little bit every day.
