EDITORIAL REVIEWS This album is real country music for everyone who's ever loved, lost, and learned hard-earned lessons and lived to tell about it. 'These are songs that aren't afraid to tell the truth,' says Womack. 'It is definitely honest music - a slice of life - the good, bad and the ugly.' Lee Ann Womack emerged as the leader of the 2005 Country Music Awards with three wins, including album of the year for There's More Where That Came From. The album marked her return to more traditional country music after a detour through pop-infused material. MCA. .COM On There's More Where That Came From, multiple Grammy-winner Lee Ann Womack's got the controls of country's Wayback Machine set 30 years in the past. The album cover, a soft-focus portrait of the Texas-born singer along with a list of songs, recalls the days when elegant, emotive vocalists like Tammy W te, Lynn Anderson, and Tanya Tucker ruled the charts. Yet the real magic's in the traditional-sounding arrangements, colored by gently weeping steel guitar, piano, harmonica, and fiddle unhurried tempos and, of course, Womack's lightly sugared confection of a voice. She explores classic themes like cheating ("There's More Where That Came From") and marital collapse ("Painless"), and draws on her own experience for "Twenty Years and Two Husbands Ago." Womack does concede a bit to the present with the dirty guitars and big rhythm of "When You Get to Me." But just a bit, as she proves the enduring appeal of sweet and sad ballads sung from the heart, and bucks the flash that makes so much modern country go pop--and fizzle. --Ted Drozdowski REVIEW Darned right she's country -- legend in the making. The sweet-butter-voiced throwback country singer far exceeds her contemporary peers. -- Richmond Times Dispatch, ** A Going for a distinctive retro vibe. It feels the way old country feels. That is, real. -- Entertainment Weekly, ** B+ Man, that's country. Womack's soulful voice captures the innocence of the heartland and the sobering reality of the big city. -- Dallas Morning News, ** A She's found a good set of songs and musicians to play them as gently and beautifully as she sings them. -- The New York Times, ** Critic's Choice This is a welcome return to what she does best and better than almost anybody else. -- USA Today, ** Stars Womack has rooted around in the country's earthy past and rediscoverd a simple truth: Sin can be a sweet topic. -- Detroit Free Press, ** 4 Stars Zestier and way more traditional than usual. Lee Ann's more versatile, able to flirt, lament and kick up her heels. -- People Magazine - 3 Stars See more
