I scuffed and primed for the alder; the carving is crisp and the proportions feel right; pre-drilled to avoid splitting. no drama, just works.

Contemporary alder on open shelving

I used Contemporary alder corbels for a open shelving. Carving was 95% perfect but one edge had chatter marks. Clients never saw it, but I did.
