GREAT MACHINE
This is a great machine, if you just take your time and practice before making your actual item. There is a learning curve, but you just need patience and avail yourself with all of the great "how to" videos available thru Singer as well as on YouTube and multiple other sites. I only wish it was compatible with the continuous hoop found with the Quintet.

Affordability tempted me to the XL-550. As an experienced sewer, I wanted something to stretch my creativity and with the ability to download from the internet, limitless embroidery designs I am able to do this. I appreciate the newsletter features particularly the applique one as I was struggling to get my head around that one (I'm nearly 70 and it takes me a little longer these days to take things in, lol). However, I now have auto punch licked! I know this is probably the last machine I shall buy and I have to say I started my long sewing life on a Singer so it's appropriate!

Love This Machine
I can't speak about the embroidery side of this machine, but I love the sewing side. I had an Athena 2000 for 40 years, and sewed everything with it. My 550 matches it, and adds to it. First, the threader is amazing. But every stich in its repertoire is also fantastic. I have sewnknits, swimsuits, cotton twill pants, challis blouse, and a silk nightie. I just finished a chiffon blouse, no skipped stitches, beautiful rolled hem. I have picked up additional feet, and this machine just runs through it all.
