Different Like Me

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK Different Like Me is a different kind of kids book because it teaches children that no matter how different they may be, its ok. That we are all unique to God, and He still loves us just as we are. Sadly, there is so much division in the world today, its easy for kids and adults alike to struggle with this issue. This book is for our world today, and I think it should be in every household, school, daycare, church and anywhere else children may be. Author Xochitl (So-Cheel) E. Dixon Dixon opens her heart and speaks to each of us through the wonderful and adorable characters in this book. I love each of them and their differences. She includes scripture in the book as well as discussion questions to help kids open up and share their feelings if they want to. Especially anyone who has disabilities or anything different than others. And I cant forget Bonnie Luis amazing illustrations. They are absolutely adorable and fit with the story so perfectly. I love that she includes about every way a child may be different. And how special is this, when a child can actually see a picture of their different self! Everything in this book is just wonderful in every way! This book is a 5 plus stars all the way! A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commissions 16 CFR, Part 255.

A Lovely Celebration of Childhood

Different Like Me is a delightful celebration of childhood! The rhyming text worked well, with an appropriate number of words on each page. The themes celebrated the sameness and differences of everyone: We have much in common like shared emotions and experiences, yet we are all unique and special in our bodies, our interests, abilities, and disabilities. The artwork was well done, and fit perfectly with the text. It was friendly, inviting, and delightful, using natural colors. The children in the story reflected different skin tones. Children with disabilities were represented-one who was blind, another in a wheelchair, and another who uses a service dog. The illustrations portrayed the children happily participating in many traditional, favorite pastimes. This is a lovely children's book that will be a family favorite. Its intent is to celebrate all of our differences, but I enjoyed it as a book to celebrate childhood. I highly recommend it. I received an e-ARC pf this book from the author, through Celebrate Lit, for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.

Different But The Same

I was excited to read this book because it is exactly what we need right now. A positive look at children they may look different but are all the same. The illustrations are beautiful and easy to keep a child's attention. I love the way the story rhymes and is easy fir children to follow along. The message is simple yet the World struggles as different to some mean not as important. We all hurt, laugh, play and love the same regardless of the color of our skin. Some may have disabilities but they are the same as everyone else. The book is a great tool to use to teach children that we are all the same. I loved how the author includes children wearing glasses, in a wheelchair, or other differences all playing together. Children are innocent and dont judge others because they may look or act differently. I would recommend this book to every parent, grandparent, church, daycare and school. I will be purchasing a copy of this book for my grandchild. The author includes questions at the end of the book for parents or teachers to use to discuss the lesson taught in the book. Come experience a group of children having fun together as they make friends and experience the message that God loves us. I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
