Jacques Offenbach's final masterpiece Les Contes d'Hoffmann is full of gorgeous melodies, seductive love scenes, and fantastic characters. This recording of Hoffmanns Erzählungen is sung completely in German, which follows a German tradition still alive up to nowadays. The 1980 Electrola recording is led by an all-star cast including Siegfried Jerusalem, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Julia Varady and Hanna Schwarz, conducted by Heinz Wallberg. Offenbach: Hoffmanns Erzählungen is part of the Electrola Collection, a series that celebrates the historic record label, Electorla. Electrola was part of the EMI Classics unit in Germany best known for their rich catalogs, masterful artists and the iconic gramophone trademark.
