Catawba Grapes were the most popular grapes cultivated in the U.S. before the introduction of the concord grape. In the mid 19th century it was prominently used for wine production. This spicy-flavored, slip skin grape forms medium-sized, round, purplish-red fruits that grow vigorously along trailing vines. Grapes develop in medium to large, well-formed clusters. Capitalize on the distinct flavor of the Catawba Grape by crafting your own wine, juices and jellies. Grows best in well-drained, humus-enriched soil. Vines blooms in June and can be harvested in late summer to fall. Reaches standard mature height of 15 ft. to 20 ft. Space plants approximately 6 ft. to 8 ft. apart for best results.
