Truly plug-and-play for me. My laptop is a 2022 model with USB 3.1 (aka SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps) USB-C port, running Fedora-40 Linux. Upon insertion the device was immediately recognized as Realtek RTL8153 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter by the USB interface. Upon connecting an ethernet cable a network connection was automatically established. Data transfer rates are on-par with 1Gb/s ethernet ports in my other computers.
