Face the Storm is a first-person account of a sexually abused child's journey as she struggles to grow, learn, and form a sense of self, and of the world around her.

C D Kreger was born to a male dominated, strictly religious family with a legacy of sexual abuse. As a small child she was pushed towards marginalized men and told that Jesus loved them and wanted her to form "special relationships" with them. At home she was the primary target of an emotionally unstable mother who would erupt into violent rages at any time for any reason.

When told of the abuse Kreger's' parents blamed their children, threatened dire consequences if they ever told anyone else, and tasked them to protect other children by watching the abuser's home.

Kreger and her sister did watch. They believed no other children were at risk, but the efforts of two children can never stop a pedophile.

While writing Face the Storm, Kreger falsely believed she and her sister were the only victims. Since then, Kreger has heard from a score of fellow survivors, across multiple generations, including relatives of the abuser, neighbors, and others. proving again, that predators thrive in the shadows of our silence and will continue until we stop keeping their secrets.

Kreger is a tireless advocate for the 62% of the population who experience some form of sexual violence in our lifetimes. She encourages survivors to tell their stories; stand up, be seen, be heard, be counted. She asks all of us, survivors and allies, to simply listen. Be the safe friend, family member, colleague or neighbor. Let survivors set their own pace. There will be time for other steps later, the first challenge is to break the silence. All we have to do is tell our stories.
