Performance Air Filters are designed to be used in uprated engine systems to increase the amount air flow thus improving performance.The breather is usually provided with baffles and filters to prevent oil mist and vapour from fouling the air filter. Intake manifold vacuum is applied to the crankcase via the PCV valve, drawing fresh air into the crankcase via the breather.
The only purpose of a breather filter is to let clean air be drawn through the block. Without a speed density tune (read: aftermarket ECU) you MUST let the crank draw air after the MAF or AFM, otherwise you are letting unmetered air into your engine which will cause it to run lean.
