Encouraging Book!

"Defiant Joy" is a journey into what could happen if, even amongst the pain and trials of life, we choose to seek the good. Stasi gives a very honest, vulnerable explanation of how she has experienced grief, chronic pain and disappointments in ministry. Hearing firsthand her stories of struggle and trial remind the reader that only in the dark can one see the light. Years of ministry and supporting others can also lead to feeling empty and depressed, as well as a condition known as "compassion fatigue." Stasi encourages those facing such struggles to seek out the joy in every situation, as the title 'Defiant Joy' alludes to. In this case, being defiantly joyful means to trust that in every difficulty we will find another facet of ourselves or it will lead you towards the truth that God is still good, He is still in control, and life will continue on. We might end up a bit weary or battle scarred, but we do not fight alone. We do not conquer those battles by ourselves. Each chapter has a prayer at the conclusion, questions to think on, and action steps to take. It was refreshing hearing another leader in the church share her own story and encourage others to seek help, both in the mental health community and within our spiritual walk when issues arise. I would say that this book seems to be best read a chapter at a time, mulling over its contents and using the study guides afterward to help benefit the reader. I received an advanced reader copy and chose to review. All opinions are my own. Thank you, Thomas Nelson publishers, for allowing me the chance to read early.
