Don't let the bad reviews scare you
We bought this bed because it met all of our needs for our son's upgrade to a "big boy" bed in a relatively small room that needed a solution with a small footprint. After reading all of the reviews, we actually preemptively bought a few extra screws and corner braces and things like that - we did not need to use any of them! We carefully followed the instructions, and were pleasantly surprised to find the bed was much sturdier than expected right out of the box without any additional supports/screws/braces needed. I would recommend against using a drill, I feel like that would have stripped several screws/bolts quickly, a screwdriver is slower but you end up with a great result. I took one star off because the slats are not sanded at all and my son got a monster splinter out of them, but seeing as there'll be no access to them with the mattress in place it isn't a huge deal. The bed arrived in four separate boxes, each over 50 lbs, over the course of three days. The headboard did have one dent, but it is concealed by the mattress and was the only shipping damage. The drawers are all a nice size, and while they do not close flush against the frame due to bolts being in the way, they are open such a minuscule amount that you don't notice it at all. The instructions were easy to follow, just take your time and apply a little common sense and you're golden. Start to finish, this took two adults and one child five hours to build. Overall, we are very pleased, and our son is thrilled with his "big boy" bed. Time will tell how it will hold up, but at this point it seems pretty rock solid. Also - I know previous reviews mentioned the slats clanking under the bed; frankly I have no idea what sort of gymnastics those reviewers are doing, or if our bed is simply too new, but ours is silent even with our son bouncing on it.
