3MScotch-WeldEpoxy Adhesive DP420 is a toughened, two-part epoxy structural adhesive that provides high impact and fatigue resistance to meet demanding bonding challenges. It works well on a variety of substrates, such as metals, ceramics, glass, many composites and plastics. This adhesive can replace mechanical fasteners, screws, rivets and spot welds in many applications. It can be used in joining, gluing, potting, panel bonding and structural bonding in sporting goods, metalworking, general industrial and transportation segments. The mix ratio is 2:1 and provides 20 minutes of work-life, allowing time to adjust for the desired fit prior to curing. This adhesive reaches handling strength in approximately two hours and is fully cured in 24 hours at 72 F 22 C. It maintains bond strength and can withstand paint bake operations up to 400 F for 60 minutes. When using this, or other Duo-Pak DP size adhesives, rely on 3M Applicators for convenient and accurate metering, mixing and dispensing.

Exhilarating Process
I am a sculptor and work with aluminum. The models I create are too small to weld even if I could weld aluminum! In the past, using two part epoxies that I had to mix out of two tubes that never dispensed their contents evenly, the process was quite messy. Trying to apply the mix with spatulas and sticks required lots of masking tape and time. The 3M DP420 has been a godsend. The two parts mix evenly, the applicator gives good control in dispensing the adhesive mix and best of all I have found I do not need to use that much masking tape. The 20 minutes setting time allows repositioning and as the epoxy starts to set you can shave whatever excess adhesive there is and clean up with solvent. This opens up a lot of possibilities for my work.

Amazing strength
Really a amazing product, I have used this to glue aluminium stringers into a race boat hull instead of welding, after 4 years of use, ZERO problems. We also have repaired intake ports with it as well as water pumps, both subject to very high stress and various chemicals, it holds fast no matter what. All in all a great product, and works very well with carbon fiber weave as a binder.
