I chose this backpack carefully for a few reasons: it is the perfect size for airline travel - it fits the "personal item" standard size for most airlines and can be stowed under your seat. Also, I wanted to use it for the gym, and it has a zip-up compartment on the bottom that can hold shoes - I wear a woman's size 8.5 or 9 shoe and the compartment is the perfect size. (It might be a squeeze if your shoes are much larger than that - they could be put in the main compartment instead.) There is also a pocket in front that is lined with waterproof material, for wet items or for keeping your phone/wallet etc. to ensure they stay dry. I am so happy with this backpack - for the price, it is a fantastic bargain! Highly recommended!
