It works after some strong sighs
It was showing as installed in partitions, but when I tried to install Windows 11 or any Windows at all, it did not show at all in the drives section when I was trying to install it. Had a heck of a time trying to get it to install Windows 11 on this. I know this is going to sound complicated, but the only way I got it installed on the drive was I had to use cloning software that had Windows 10 on it, and then after I cloned it, I installed it in my laptop, where I had to use Windows Assistant to install Windows 11 on my computer. All in all, I did get it to install, and after all day of trying to figure it out and frying my brain to get this to work, I DID IT, and all I was able to say was HOORAY, and I showed it who was boss. Otherwise this works great, and at least now I have an already cloned drive for backup to use if I ever have problems.
Works as Advertised
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Its easy to install, its fast. At this point I only buy Samsung. The capacity is exactly what they advertised ans its faster then anything else. Its very much worth the extra you pay for it. I haven't found anything it hasn't interfaced to. I have never had a single failure of any of my Samsung drives. I highly recommend Samsung everything.
Amazingly fast, stays cool, & plenty of space
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Im a huge fan of the Samsung EVO line of NVMe's and have beeb using them for several years now, including the bew 990 EVO. The 990 EVO supports the M.2 2280 form factor and is NVMe (so full PCIe speed) which means plug-and-play for modern motherboards. Power efficiency: According to reviewers, the 990 EVO delivers “enhanced power efficiency, reportedly up to 70% better than the 970 EVO Plus.” For laptop users or machines where heat/power budget matter, that's a win. Reliability & brand: As with all Samsung “EVO” drives, you get a 5-year warranty and solid support/tooling (eg. Samsung Magician software for firmware updates, drive health). Its a great drive for everyday use and easily handles tasks such as Booting, OS loads, game loads, and had amazingly fast general responsiveness... this drive will absolutely deliver at that level with no hiccups. One thing to note is that The 990 EVO (and its Plus variant) uses two PCIe 5.0 lanes (x2) or four PCIe 4.0 lanes (x4) in compatible systems. The practical upshot: even though it advertises “PCIe 5.0 support”, you're basically getting PCIe 4-class bandwidth unless under very specific conditions. If you're using it in a board with full PCIe 5.0 x4 lanes (or expect extremely high sustained write speeds) this might matter, but in most cases shouldn't be an issue. Read/Write speeds are blazing fast with ~5000mb read/write...there are obviously drives which exceed this, but at speeds this quick, you'll hardly notice any difference. 1TB is plenty of space, but get as much as you can afford. I have 8TB of SSD in my PC across 3 NVMe and I'm still coming close to maxing that out with all the games I play...most folks may not need nearly that, but games are getting bigger and bigger and some of mine (COD) take up almost 200GB each.
