Not your ordinary lamp - Time Travel Included

Wow!!! As a person that enjoys both learning and history, I couldn't pass up on this lamp. The lamp was well priced, packaged properly, and arrived in new condition. This Carbide Lamp transported me back in time to when miners used this very simplistic, but ingenious lamp to work in the dark. I would not personally recommend the lamp for caving or really any other purpose than a novelty. The Carbide Lamp is literally hot. You will not be able to hold the lamp from the bottom because of the exothermic reaction between the Calcium Carbide and the water. There is an open flame so you or others can get burned if you are not careful. The lamp is definitely not a toy. You will also need to buy Calcium Carbide (lamp grade) separately to use the lamp at an additional cost. The item is well priced, solid construction, and made in India. I am looking forward to many more uses of the lamp and showing family and friends a part of history.

Carbide lamp arrived!

I had to first use a pair of pliers to break loose the water drip valve and get it to turn freely.The ceramic gas nozzle had some soot on it, lamp pre-tested or used?Needed to use a strap wrench to unscrew the carbide chamber. The problem was some spent carbide residue on the threads quickly corrected.Nope, I'm not complaining, I'm quite delighted with my purchase! The minor problems I noted above took maybe ten minutes, at the most, to correct. However if you want instant, right out of the box, illumination I'd suggest you go with LEDs.I did a lot of caving with carbide many years ago and quite like the illumination, a focused light in front of you and also enough residual light below and to the sides to keep you out of trouble.Yet' I am quite satisfied with my purchase and Lehman's service and handling. Thanks guys!
