Great Rock Hudson's biography!

Love Rock Hudson since 60s. Great actor, great biography and history of the Hollywood industry. I am glad that I was able to purchase this book in Walmart.

Sometimes good, sometimes boring

All That Heaven Allows, a biography of Rock Hudson is gossipy at times, disjointed at times, but at all times a sad story of a man having to publicly live a lie. The actor's sexual orientation apparently was a well known secret in acting circles, but as the author points out, great efforts were made to prevent the movie going public from learning Rock Hudson was gay. The author gives great detail about Rock's movies...less detail can be said about his personal life. He does not paint a sympathetic portrait of Phyllis Gates, claiming she was a lesbian. I am not sure I learned anything earthshaking from the book except as a reference to how times and public perception of homosexuality have changed. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from Booksprout.
