1941-Determined to avoid military service in the English army, young Trey Kennon jumps at a dubious offer to manage a commercial plantation on the remote Pacific island of San Samal. To his dismay, he soon discovers that his real role on the island is that of a spy, a link in a network of coastwatchers designed to feed Allied Command with vital intelligence on regional Japanese military movements.
Kennon is ill-prepared to face the rigors of life as a coastwatcher. Every decision he is forced to make drives him deeper into peril as he becomes embroiled in a turbulent test of wills with his treacherous second-in-command. But when the Japanese Navy invade San Samal to establish a strategic airstrip, Kennon finds himself trapped in enemy territory with the danger rapidly escalating toward the precipice between life and death.
