Documentaries play and important role in the more and more global media culture that has been under development for the last decades. Documentaries come in many forms and genres, but they all claim a special relation with reality, and they want to engage us in different ways with reality. As our reality, in politics, in culture and in many other aspects of our everyday life, gets more and more influenced by globalization, documentary film and television begin to tell stories from this global reality, they start confronting us with the challenges raised by globalization. This book deals with some of the themes behind those global challenges as they are reflected and represented in documentaries from USA, UK and Scandinavia. There is a strong focus on the period after 2001, and only a few, but central global themes are taken up and dealt with through the lenses of documentary films: the war on terror, the globalization of politics and news reporting, migration and the multicultural challenge and the climate challenge.
