(optional) 2 tbsp; No. of servings. 8, old fashioned oats. 4 cups, water. 6 cups, salt. (optional) 1 tbsp; No. of servings. 4, old fashioned oats. 2 cups, water. 3-1/4 cups, salt. (optional) 1/4 tbsp; No. of servings. 2, old fashioned oats. 1 cup, water. 1-1/2 cups, salt. (optional) dash; No. of servings. 1, old fashioned oats. 1/2 cups, water. 1 cups, salt. (optional) dash. Food Service Preparation: Direct Heat Method: In heavy saucepan, stir oats into briskly boiling salted water. Return to boil; reduce heat. Simmer 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Transfer to steam table; cover. Let stand 5 to 10 minutes. Microwave Directions (Microwave ovens vary in power, cooking times may need to be adjusted): For 1 serving: Pour 1 cup water, 1/2 cup oats and a dash of salt (optional) in 1 quart microwave - safe container. Cook uncovered about 2-1/2 to 3 minutes (1000 watt microwave oven); stir well. Let stand until desired consistency. Home Preparation: Stove Top: (1) Stir oats into briskly boiling salted water. (2) Cook 5 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally. (3) Cover; remove from heat. Let stand until desired consistency. For creamier texture, combine oats and salt in cold water; bring to a boil. Cook as directed. Microwave Directions (Microwave ovens vary in power, cooking times may need to be adjusted): (1) For 1 serving, combine water, salt and oats in a 2 cup microwaveable cereal bowl. (2) Microwave on high 2-1/2 to 3 minutes or until thickened. (3) Mix well before serving. Serving Suggestion: Oatmeal purchases double when toppings are added.
