Fit is perfect for curvy/short

This is my second pair (only because I lost some weight and needed a new size). I am curvy and short and these fit perfect, the only ones I have been able to find that work well for upland bird hunting and fit.

I WANT to love these so much.

I want to love these pants. They have the perfect pocket placement and definitely withstand the brush. But why is the waste so high! I am 5'6” tall and these pants come up to my ribcage! I'm considering taking them apart at the top to bring the waste down a bit. I've had them in my closet unworn since the end of last season, I don't care about losing the front pockets if I fix these because I won't use those small pockets anyways, I'm more apt to use the thigh pocket. Also these pants are heavy, in weight not too heavy in heat for the season. I have a bigger thigh, so I had to get an 8 to fit my thighs but they don't fit my waist. Hopefully bringing the waistband down will fix that.
