For five years, Bert and John Jacobs traveled up and down the East Coast, selling their homemade T-shirt designs on the streets and door to door in college dorms. They slept in their van, lived on peanut butter and jelly, and showered when they could. The ladies were not impressed. Then in 1994, with a combined sum to their names, three simple words showed them the way. As the brothers stumbled forward learning to grow Life is Good, mail rolled in from optimists doing what they loved— and celebrating the simple things that made their lives good. Unexpectedly, the company also started receiving many letters and emails from people fighting to overcome great adversity. Their courageous stories demonstrated how optimism can empower us even in the hardest times.
