On the return journey from our first ski trip with this rack, it blew apart while we were on the highway. The functioning hinge on the front rack snapped, and popped open, firing skis all over the road. Collecting 3 pair of skis from the other side of the highway, with traffic hurtling past at 70mph isn't for the faint hearted let me tell you…. thankfully, no one was injured (or worse) and the car behind that ran over a ski(s) wasn't damaged. We have video and photos from the incident, and damaged ski equipment as a reminder. Having returned the product, plus videos and photos to customer service, the manufacturer has predictably concluded that it was user error (after some particularly thorough investigations I bet)… what a surprise.! Moral of the story: if sprinting across a 3 lane highway collecting damaged skis - while your family nervously waits in the car parked on the median strip for your return - sounds like your idea of a good time, then these are the product for you. If not, don't waste your money on this utter junk.
