Invsn (pronounced invasion) was birthed from the subcultural landscape, imbued with the passionate spirit of Hardcore Punk and emboldened by the rich history of Rock n' Roll, by members of Refused, the (International) Noise Conspiracy, D.S.-13. After releasing a couple of records in their native tongue under the name Invasionen, the Swedish band decided to invade the rest of the world with their English language debut. Produced by Nick Launay (Public Image Ltd., Nick Cave, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Church), INVSN's self-titled debut recall the strongest elements of 70's psych and 80's New Wave, and a forward-thinking vision of the future. The end result is a sound that is both timeless and nostalgic. The World doesn't even realize how ready it is for this album!
In the same change that saw the band change its name from Invasionen to INVSN, the Swedish punk outfit has also shaken things up stylistically, not only with the switch back to English lyrics, but by adopting a darker, moodier sound. Evoking post-punk greats like Joy Division and Echo & the Bunnymen, INVSN's self-titled reintroduction feels distinct enough to justify their stark new nomenclature. And even though there's nothing revolutionary happening here, the post-punk revivalists' spot-on re-creation of the murky sound of the '70s is an impressive feat in and of itself, and should satisfy anyone looking for something with that perfect blend of brooding and danceability. ~ Gregory Heaney, Rovi
