Alicia De Larrocha: Complete EMI Recordings - Soler, Granados, Albéniz, Turina, Montsalvatge, Falla / Icon / EMI Classics 8x Audio CD, Box Set 2010 Stereo UPC 5099962948623 Alicia de Larrocha y de la Calle (23 May 1923 – 25 September 2009) was a Spanish pianist and composer. She was considered one of the great piano legends of the 20th century. Reuters called her "the greatest Spanish pianist in history", Time "one of the world's most outstanding pianists", and The Guardian "the leading Spanish pianist of her time". She won four Grammy Awards, out of fourteen nominations, and a Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts. She is credited with bringing greater popularity to the compositions of Isaac Albéniz and Enrique Granados. In 1995, she became the first Spanish artist to win the UNESCO Prize. This Barcelona-born pianist won acclaim for her Mozart performances, but it was her interpretations of the great Spanish composers that made her a star. That's the focus of this set; all the recordings of solo Spanish piano music she made for the Spanish company Hispavox in the '50s and '60s and a live 1971 recording with soprano Victoria de los Angeles join a Montsalvatge concerto she played in '92. In addition to a wealth of Granados (Danza Lenta; Allegro de Concierto; Valses Poeticos Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 & 7) and Albeniz (Almeria; Triana; El Polo; Lavapies; Malaga; Jerez; Azulejos; Tango; Zaragoza), she plays Soler (Sonata en Re Menor; Sonata en Fa Mayor), de Falla (Piezas Espanola; Fantasia Betica), Turina (Danzas Fantasticas I, II & III) and more!
