Worth every penny

I recently converted my '66 Mustang to power disc brakes because I was tired of the massive effort and poor stopping power of the original drum brakes. After the power conversion the brakes were much better, but still had an abnormally high effort. I knew I was at the low end of vacuum @15in/hg with the mild cam/intake, etc. for a power brake system, so I decided to go with a vacuum pump. What a difference! The car now stops like a much more modern car, hardly any pedal effort required at all, and I don't fear the 1/4 mile stopping distances of the original brakes when some moron pulls out in front of you. Well worth the money, very quiet can be barely heard with the engine off.

Great

My power brakes on my 71 Satellite have never been that good, my engine does not have a really big cam, but I bought this and it made a huge difference. The only thing I would do different is buy the one without the cannister look, it is really too big, I read the dimensions but it was still much larger than I pictured. I took the pump out and mounted it behind the headlights. Works good and is fairly quiet, can't hear it at all with the engine running.

Steep price but perfect for my application

I have resto-modded a 1950 ford pickup. Engine not high performance but slightly bored out 302. Front disc and rear drum. Holley carb cannot maintain vacuum after first few uses because 1) vacuum too low from port and 2) master cylinder small to fit on frame rail. Added storage tank but carb still could not keep up. Added this pump to solve problem. Left in the new storage canister and mounted pump under hood on firewall. Looks great in black plastic housing and matches other colors under hood. Brakes now feel like a modern vehicle. Main attractions of this unit were capacity and very low noise level. Cannot hear it inside unless engine off then is only a soft hum. Many alternatives have a jackhammer sound that makes them very noticeable. That's why they are often in trunk or elsewhere away from passenger compartment. I give this pump 5 stars--you get what you pay for.
