27IN 1080P HD 1MS 2XHDMI 2XSPEAKER

I've got this 27" Asus VS278Q-P monitor a couple of week ago, and so far it performs well. I didn't see any dead pixels, which was an issue in some of the reviews I read before making up my mind on this monitor. While I'm quite happy overall, one irritating thing to mention is a very high brightness. I tried to reduce it, but even when I dial it down to 0 in the menu, it's still rather high (the screen becomes somewhat darker, but never goes to even a semi-dark state), but the contrast becomes poor at those settings. So I have to work at something like 25 - 30% brightness settings, and there the screen literally shines from within. While this may sound romantic, it's actually irritating when you have to work with applications that have a lot of light colors (like white pages in Word or Powerpoint). I compared this screen with older "pre-LED" screens I'm using, and those produce nice matte white color, sort of like usual printer paper. I don't know if this is a problem of this particular monitor or of the LED backlight technology in general. This brightness problem, however, is not important when I use the monitor for watching movies because the bright light colors there are usually rather limited.
