Abridged version of the stories

As a young kid, I fondly remember reading several of the Aesop fables, and being enthralled with the stories, and the lessons they taught. Since my kids love to be read stories during bedtime, and I wanted to limited them to a few minutes so they are content, but also not staying up into the wee hours of the night, I figured this book would fit the bill. Since the price was a bit cheaper than other variations of the same product, I had lower expectation around stuff like the illustrations and quality of the pages. However, what I hadn't expected was that these are severely shortened versions of the story. For example, with the boy who cried wolf, I remember it being an entire book, with beautifully illustrations. But here, it's basically just a single paragraph saying the boy cried wolf too many times so the villagers doesn't trust him anymore. For my kids, reading this straight from the pages would have been a rather boring re-telling of the story. So I ended up using this as a guide to remind me of the story, and then I would embellish it on my own to make it more entertaining and last longer. Overall, it's a good price, but unless you want to read cliff notes version of the story, I would suggest getting a different book.
