People need to be aware that many tub and shower faucets are designed to accommodate a range of available space within the wall. Consequently, if the valve body is mounted to a 2x4 in a standard thickness wall, the faucet will protrude farther out than if it was mounted to a 1x4. I did not realize this until I had already replaced the plywood backing for my shower wall and glued in the surround. Had I known, I would have adjusted the supporting brace so there wasn't as much handle sticking out from the escutcheon. The 1/2" this extension provided made the difference between an acceptable appearance and having to tear the wall back out or buy a different faucet. I had asked Moen if it fit my model number, as there is no list of fitment compatibility. The answer was simple and helpful; It fits any Moen with a 7" escutcheon. We have the Moen Caldwell One-Handle Tub/Shower set, and it fit perfectly. The fit and finish are outstanding, and it was a breeze to install. Well done, Moen!
