1822 Large Cent Fine

Large Cents, like U.S. Half Cents, were the very first coins minted at the brand new Philadelphia Mint in 1793. The coinage press at that time was powered by hand so the mintages are tiny by current day standards. The Large Cent series ran from 1793 until 1857, when the price of copper soared and “small cents” were minted. Large Cents are highly collectible by date and variety and compiling a complete collection is a great challenge but it can be completed.
