Superschmelz Giant White Kohlrabi Seeds. 70 Days. Brassica oleracea. Non-GMO, Open Pollinated. Vegetable garden and microgreens seeds. A giant kohlrabi variety that retains its sweetness and tenderness at large size. The superschmelz produces huge bulbs that get as big as 10 inches in diameter. Translated from German ‘kohl’ meaning cabbage and ‘rabi’ meaning turnip, the kohlrabi plant is a unique and prolific winter hardy heirloom crop. Traditionally harvested for its wide and root-like bulb grown above ground, kohlrabi is edible raw from stem, leaf, to tip. Also known as “German turnip”, kohlrabi is an old-world favorite used in kitchens across the map. Kohlrabi is a cool season crop grown similarly to cabbage, best sown in early spring or early fall. For earliest starts, begin indoors 3-4 weeks prior to frost dates. Plant 3-4 seeds ½ in deep per cell or 4-6 in. apart in the garden in organic, loamy, and well-drained soil in full sun. Seeds germinate in 3-10 days, thin back to 1 plant per container or 10-12 inches in the garden as true leaves establish. About 8500 seeds per ounce.
