She marries and lives with her husband Hamid in Teheran, after having been cast out by her husband's family as a "non-believer". One day Catherine is raped by a neighbor. She turns to the young, inexperienced lawyer Mahmoud Milani, with whom she wants to go to the police. However, he advises her not to report the rape or confide in her husband under any circumstances, referring to the complicated Iranian jurisdiction. Catherine follows her lawyer's advice.
