Icarus, the son of Daedalus the master craftsman and creator of the Labyrinth, is depicted in a moment of glory as he soars above the clouds using a pair of wings his father constructed out of wax and feathers in order to escape Crete. The legend states that Icarus was warned not to fly to low where the sea could dampen his wings, and not too high where the sun could melt the wax. Unfortunately, Icarus, in his excitement of flying, did fly too close to the sun. The was melted and the feathers were lost. Icarus then fell into the sea where he drowned, now known as the Icarian Sea. Amazingly sculpted in cold cast bronze, a process of mixing bronze powder with resin, the Flight of Icarus is an intricately carved, eye-catching statue with a striking finish that gives it the look of real metal. This 14 x 10 x 4 inch Icarus statue is an exciting piece of home decor sure to get any mythology buff or fantasy art collector flying with excitement!
