Kochia trichophylla is an annual shrub-like bush that grows in a symmetrical, oval form. In the summer the bush is pale green, and in the fall it changes colors to an intense red. It reaches 28 inches in height and makes a great back-drop for plants and flowers in the garden or border. It is commonly called Burning Bush, and it grows well in full sun and is not picky about soil conditions. Start the seed indoors 4 - 6 weeks before the last expected frost date. Press the seed into the soil but do not cover it. Keep the seed moist. With temperatures ranging from 60 – 65F, germination usually occurs within 14 days. Transplant outside after danger of frost has passed and space the plants 24 inches apart.
