Automatic dog door

Because the installation location was between two studs that were NOT 16” on center I needed to open the wall, cut a stud out, install Jack studs and a header. I don't know if the issue is due to the 6” studs but after setting the sensitivity from the house side of the door our dogs need to nearly put their foreheads against the door in order for the door to unlock.
