Key item features

This is the only self-help book designed to help the layperson to treat themselves for painful trigger points with massage. Trigger point therapy is one of the most intriguing and fastest-growing bodywork styles in the world. Medical doctors, chiropractors, and alternative health practitioners are all beginning to use this technique to relieve the pain of individuals suffering from undiagnosable soft tissue pain-a condition that studies have shown to be the cause of nearly 25 percent of all doctor visits. The technique involves applying a gentle, sweeping stroke to trigger points, places in muscle or connective tissue where a lack of oxygen causes swelling. These points are easily located by general readers and create pain throughout the body in predictable patterns characteristic to each muscle, producing discomfort ranging from mild to severe. The stimulation of the point causes an increase in the oxygen level in the area and often produces instant relief.

The first edition of The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook has made a huge impact in the use of this dynamic technique. This is the first major revision of the overnight classic, a complete update that includes new information specifically for massage professionals as well as a detailed discussion of progressive muscle relaxation techniques that can reinforce the therapeutic power of trigger point work.

Trigger Point Therapy Workbook

This book was recommended to me by a very knowledgeable friend. I've had long-term problems with chronic pain. Although I haven't read the entire book yet, I've read selected portions that specifically apply to me and have found them very helpful. I expect to keep this book handy for reference for a long time to come!

trigger point self therapy

this book tells you what some pros don't want you to know because then you may not need them. Great and helpful book for DIY or for therapist wanting to expand areas of knowledge. the info here has helped reduce much of my pain and I still have areas to check out. I dove in a bit too gung-ho and caused some bruising and soreness I didn't need. So now I'm going a bit slower and less vigorously. I got the Prospera Complete Body Massager Set which is cheaper than the similar items bought separately as various knobs and balls. It is a better buy of tools for executing the techniques in this book. They not only save your fingers, knuckles or whatever but get the job done with less pain than using fingers which was when I was going too hard.

Good self-help tool

I consider this book to be a useful self-help tool for treating trigger points, or irritable spots in the muscle. It has many, many pictures which help guide the reader to common places in the muscles where these things are at. From there, you can use a ball, massage them with your fingers, or even use this tool called a Thera-Cane to get to those hard to reach places. All in all a handy book for treating trigger points, another good lesson here is that sometimes muscle trigger points can mimick more serious ailments, when the problem is really just in the muscle. Also recommend "The 5-Minute Plantar Fasciitis Solution" if you suffer from plantar fasciitis pain.
