A step above the competition

I was in the market for a scope for general hunting, and potentially some NRL hunter type competitions. With that it had to meet some strict criteria and was able to do a few specific things. First, i wanted a zero stop elevation turret with the possibility of a custom turret. The XTR III offers this, plus the optional race dial that is great for competition. It also had to have a capped windage turret, this offers that as well but the cool part is you can install a dial as well. I knew i was going to spend a little more than entry level so i wanted the glass quality to be on par with the price tag. The XTR III has exceeded the expectations, and this is with side by side comparisons with competive scopes in the same price range. Finally, i wanted the warranty. Burris's warranty reputation is as good as any other manufacturers with a "forever, no question warranty". All in all great scope for my needs.

Used it to ring steel targets out to 860 yards

This optic has a crisp, bright image and wind correction was easy with the .mil reticle. I borrowed one and mounted it on my DD5V4 .308. After a quick 100 yard zero, I started hitting targets at 360 yards and moved out in 100 yard increments to finish the day hitting steel at 860 yards using a ballistics calculator to dial .mil elevation. I am just starting my long range shooting addiction and owe my spotter many thanks for helping me hit targets consistently at that range using the XTR III.
