You can't go wrong with a North Face classic!

Because of the pandemic, I began biking rather than going to the gym last Fall, but the windy and damp Winter weather where I live can be quite challenging, and I knew right away that regular heavy Winter coats wouldn't be sufficient, and I don't care for synthetic bikewear, so a down jacket seemed to be the best option, and I bought this Nuptse jacket because of its quality, durability, warmth, and classic appearance. It solves my Winter biking problem PERFECTLY, and I'm very glad I bought it.

Modern classic with legit roots

My Dad was one of the guys who helped get Lake Placid ready for the 1980 Winter Olympics. He'd come back home and talk of the North Face gear the folks up there wore - it was good stuff and people knew it. Although this jacket apes a later era (90's) it reminds me of the gear I saw hanging in the shops at the Olympic Village. The taupe color is a nice vintage army green and although the material is listed as 'shiny' it's really a satin finish - so you don't look like a big hershey's kiss in it. The ripstop material is a tight weave, very subtle and looks like it should be good at resisting snags and scratches on life's adventures. There is a single interior pocket which is large enough to hold an iphone XS max plus a few other small items. A plus is it's placement- you can easily feel the contents through the exterior side pockets which are also generously sized. The collar stands up quite a bit so this one might look a little awkward with a hoodie underneath. Luckily there is enough room to tuck it under the back - fit is relaxed overall. On that note, the overstuffed down panels are big for sure but not overly so. Overall this jacket is a great throwback that works just fine in modern times.

Fantastic

The Nuptse has improved over the years. It now includes a hood, & the inner lining is a solid piece. The outer lining feels a little heavier & sturdy than it was 2-3 years ago; while not a waterproof jacket, it feels like it will at least be a little more water resistant. The only thing I don't care for is the large, prominent logo on BOTH the front & back of the jacket. That's kind of overkill.
