I bought this set for my 3-year-old grandson, who loved to play with an old marble run that I have (it belongs to my son) whenever he visits me. Adults must help build the run(s) at first, but this toy keeps him busy for more than an hour... he loves it. Kids never outgrow this toy... they just want more pieces, so I recommend buying more compatible sets while you can. P. S. No batteries required!
