Memorable reading

I remember having to read this for high school English 25 years ago, O_o this book (and Animal Farm, which was creepy) is the only thing I remember from high school (which I hated and I hated English even more). This book is the only required book I ever liked. I couldn't put it down and when finishing it left me wanting for more. I recommend this book to anyone who loves either History or war-themed books, which most often are boys. I am one of the few rare females that liked this (History & military/war related themes) book, probably because of being raised in the military and being a tomboy. From what I remember, it was about the conflict between personal guilt, societal pressure, and the instinct of self-preservation during wartime, and how some college boys dealt with all of that in light of that as college students they were exempted (were only going to be called for duty as a last resort) from (the military) going to war. Although they were exempted, they did feel the pressure to serve. I'm not sure how today's youth can relate to this, as I believe they wouldn't have such a dilemma (feel no guilt/pressure) seeing how selfish and self-centered society has become. Those with such personalities would probably dislike and not understand this book nor it's characters.

The book itself is great and its a requirement for the High School Freshmen but the afterword is absolutely nonsense. I would recommend getting this same book by another publisher or without the foolish insertion which is basically trying to promote the homosexual agenda and brainwash our children.
