I've tried to sharpen our kitchen knives using whetstones, and found it tedious, tiring and the results were inconsistent. This little sharpener has done a great job of providing consistently sharp and durable knife edges. I'm very happy with my purchase, which cost less than the whetstones. I also ordered the leather strop, compound, and can't wait see if it can take my edges to an even higher level. It also has a round ceramic stone for serrated blades. If you can follow the instructions and use this as intended you won't be sorry!
