Machine wash first if you want it to have a softer feel. It's got animals all over it, which my daughter loves!! The bed set gives her room more of a girly look, exactly what she was wanting. This had such a cute design that even a teenager appreciate and with the skirt that hides stuff underneath and makes it look like a more adult bed ensemble. It was easy to wash without any shrinking or pulling and it didn't bunch in the dryer.
