The investigation reveals that Mala Noche, an extremely dangerous mob-related gang, are responsible and that they may be targeting Horatio. Back in the lab, Natalie Boa Vista (Eva La Rue), an expert DNA technician specializing in cold cases, begins work and catches the eyes of Eric Delko (Adam Rodriguez) and Ryan Wolfe (Jonathan Togo). Another woman catching Ryan's attention is aggressive TV reporter Erica Sikes (Amy Laughlin), who proves to be a thorn in his side. Later, Ryan's future as a CSI is placed in jeopardy when he is shot with a nail gun in the corner of his right eye. As for Horatio, his girlfriend Rachel (Kimberly Page) is murdered and he becomes a suspect in the case.
