Very nice box for the money. Since it seems to be made of balsa wood, I used a pre-conditioner to treat it before applying any stain. I went online and found that I could make a homemade pre-conditioner instead of buying Minwax pre-conditioner or a similar product, The homemade recipe actually uses three parts vegetable oil to one part vinegar and it worked out. I might not even need to add a stain because it brought out the grain fairly well, it's still delicate but attractive. I'm not sure if I will apply any kind of Polyurethane finishing to it, I haven't decided that yet. Anyway for the price it's very nice box. There are two gold tone hinges, and then on the front of the box is a small gold tone closing mechanism to keep the lid shut.
